Are you fed up with having to visit a car mechanic every week to get an issue fixed with your car? Then learn the different ways in which you can look after your car so that the chances of needing a car mechanic will be decreased. Here are some of the top issues that a car could suffer from, and how you can prevent them from occurring:

Emissions Leaks Due To Evaporation

The system that is used to keep the gas fumes within the tank is called the evaporative emissions system control, or EVAP. However, a leak can develop if the components of the system have corroded, or if you have failed to tighten the gas cap adequately.

Therefore, if you sense that your tank is leaking make sure that the cap is tightened securely. If that doesn't solve the problem then replace the components of the EVAP, because they might already be corroded. Also ask your mechanic to install rust protection to prevent leaks in the future.

Mis-Firing Of Your Engine

An engine misfire occurs when the spark plug of an engine does not fire at the correct moment, or does not fire at all. A spark plug mis-fire can happened for the following reasons:

  • There could be a mechanical breakdown such as a blown cylinder head gasket, faulty piston ring, burnt valve and faulty valve spring.
  • A vacuum leak.
  • If the fuel delivery system is not functioning properly then a mis-fire is inevitable. Fuel delivery systems can become compromised if the intake plenum is cracked or the injectors are faulty.
  • If the wires of the spark plug are badly connected.

To prevent a mis-fire of spark plugs the car engine needs to be maintained as instructed by the manufacturer's manual. Furthermore, you should visit a mechanic twice a year for a check up to spot potential problems that could cause spark plug mis-fires down the road.

System Failure Of The Exhaust Gas Recirculation

The exhaust gas recirculation, or EGR system reduces the volume of harmful pollutants released into the atmosphere by keeping the temperature within the combustion chamber down. However, the EGR system can become comprised if the level of unburned gas builds up, electronic problems develop or the valves of the EGR wear out.

To prevent system failure of the EGR, schedule a cleanup of the system occasionally. This will reduce the buildup of unburned gas, and that in turn will reduce the chances of the system being compromised. If all else fails and you need to take your car into a mechanic, you can also take your car in to a place like Wollongong Auto Electrics
